On the pious occasion of Chhath Mahaparv, the festival of sun worship, Minister for Urban Development and Energy, Shri A.K. Sharma, visited Laxman Mela Ghat in Lucknow, where he offered Arghya to the Sun God and prayed for the happiness, peace, prosperity, and good health of the people of Uttar Pradesh. Amidst light showers and a large gathering of devotees, Shri Sharma personally participated in the rituals and interacted with devotees present at the ghat.
The Minister said that Chhath Mahaparv is a reflection of Indian culture that conveys a unique message of discipline, devotion, cleanliness, and environmental protection.

On this festive occasion, the Urban Development Department’s initiative received overwhelming appreciation on social media. The hashtag #NagarVikasUP_Ka_स्वच्छ_छठ became the No. 1 trending topic in India. Other related hashtags like #Swachh_ChhathIn_UpCities, #UpCitiesKaSwachhChhath, and #नगरविकासविभाग also trended throughout the day on Twitter (X), Facebook, and Instagram.
Citizens from various cities across Uttar Pradesh shared photos of clean ghats, illuminated streets, and festive arrangements, praising the department’s efforts. The campaign became a symbol of ‘Faith with Cleanliness’, inspiring a renewed sense of cleanliness and community participation in all urban areas of the state.
Despite light rainfall, the arrangements at the ghats remained well-managed. Minister Shri Sharma personally inspected the works carried out by Municipal Corporation, Jal Nigam, Electricity Department, and administrative teams. He reviewed cleanliness, lighting, drinking water, security, and traffic management arrangements, and expressed satisfaction with the preparedness.
He especially appreciated the efforts of sanitation workers, electricity staff, fire services, police personnel, and municipal teams, acknowledging their dedication and commitment in ensuring a clean and safe environment for the devotees.
Present on the occasion were the Municipal Commissioner, Additional Municipal Commissioner, and other concerned officials.
