Lucknow, November 8, 2025

At the Yashobhoomi India International Convention Centre in Dwarka, New Delhi, Uttar Pradesh’s Minister for Urban Development and Energy, Shri A.K. Sharma, participated in the National Urban Conclave organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India. The conclave aimed to create a shared strategy and a long-term roadmap for urban development.

Urban development experts, policymakers, and ministers from various states discussed in detail topics such as spatial planning, urban mobility, solid and liquid waste management, capacity building, affordable housing, sustainable urban infrastructure, and urban livelihoods.

Highlighting key initiatives undertaken in Uttar Pradesh’s urban development sector, Shri A.K. Sharma mentioned significant progress achieved under Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), AMRUT Mission, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), and the Smart Cities Mission.

He noted that the state government has made several innovative efforts in solid and liquid waste management — including door-to-door waste collection, compost production from waste, and the use of modern technology for drain cleaning and treatment. He cited the UP Darshan Park as a model example of effective solid waste management.

Shri Sharma emphasized that urban local bodies should not remain mere service providers but become active partners in urban development. To achieve this, it is essential to strengthen citizen participation, public awareness, and technological empowerment.

During the conclave, Uttar Pradesh’s urban development model received special appreciation. Representatives from various states praised the state’s achievements in the fields of cleanliness, housing, and urban infrastructure, describing them as an inspiration for others.

The participants collectively expressed their commitment to advancing India toward clean, organized, and sustainable urban development.

Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Shri Manohar Lal Khattar, along with urban development ministers from various states, urban planning experts, officials from urban local bodies, and mayors and commissioners from several urban bodies of Uttar Pradesh, were present on the occasion.
