  • 2022 Nobel Prize in Medicine awarded to Svante Pääbo. He made the discovery of a previously unknown hominin, Denisova.
  • Pääbo also found that gene transfer had occurred from these now extinct hominins to Homo sapiens following the migration out of Africa around 70,000 years ago.

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh formally inducted the indigenously-developed Light Combat Helicopters (LCH) in the Indian Air Force at a ceremony held at Air Force Station, Jodhpur. LCH would be inducted into the 143 Helicopter Unit.
  • Addressing the ceremony, Mr. Singh said induction of LCH not only adds to the combat capability of the Air Force but is also a great leap towards the goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat. 
  • Indian Railways has converted 500 Mail Express trains to Superfast category. In addition to this, 130 services (65 pairs) have also been speeded up by converting to Superfast category. The speeding up of trains is between 10 minutes to 70 minutes.
