Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today stated that highest priority is given to the safety and security of India’s weapon systems and assured the House that India’s missile system is very reliable and safe and safety procedures and protocols have been reviewed from time to time.
Making a statement in both the Houses of Parliament on the inadvertent release of a missile during inspection last week, he said that India’s armed forces are well trained, disciplined and well experienced in handling such systems.
Expressing regret over the incident, he said that it was learnt later that the missile had landed inside the territory of Pakistan but was relieved that no one was hurt due to the incident.
The Defence Minister said that the Government had taken serious note of the incident and a formal high-level inquiry has been ordered to determine the exact cause of the incident. Mr.Singh told that if any shortcoming was found it would be rectified.
