Indian boxer Monika stunned two-time world champion Josie Gabuco of the Philippines to advance to the women’s 48-kilogram semifinals in the Thailand Open International Boxing competition in Phuket today.
Monika defeated Gubuco, an experienced campaigner who won gold and bronze medals at the World Championships in 2012 and 2008. She will now compete in the semifinal against Tran Thi Diem Kieu of Vietnam, who had a bye in the previous round.
